About Adam Carey

For more than 25 years, Adam Carey has built his career around helping individuals and families make confident financial decisions and prepare for a successful retirement.

As the founder of Dantas Financial, Adam specializes in working with people who are approaching retirement, transitioning into retirement, or already enjoying their retirement years. His philosophy is simple: retirement planning should be about much more than managing investments. It should bring together income, investments, taxes, Social Security, healthcare, risk management, and estate and legacy planning into one coordinated strategy.

Adam's interest in financial planning began in high school when a financial professional visited his class and introduced him to the stock market and the fundamentals of investing. The experience sparked an interest that ultimately became a lifelong career.

Adam holds a degree in financial planning and has earned the Bucket Plan Certification, along with the Retirement Income Certified Professional® (RICP®) and Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® (CAP®) designations. He also holds the Series 65 securities license and has extensive experience and licenses in investment management, insurance, annuities, long-term care, Medicare, and retirement income planning.

A Different Approach to Retirement Planning

Adam believes that no two retirements are exactly alike. That's why every financial plan begins with understanding the person behind the numbers—their goals, concerns, family, lifestyle, and the life they envision in retirement.

From determining when to claim Social Security and creating sustainable retirement income to managing investment risk, planning for taxes and healthcare expenses, and preserving a legacy for future generations, Adam takes a comprehensive approach to helping clients prepare for the many decisions retirement can bring.

His goal isn't simply to help clients accumulate more. It's to help them use what they've built to live well, retire confidently, and make the most of the years ahead.

Beyond the Office

Outside of work

Adam enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, Andreia, and their dog, Oliver. Whether hiking in the North Carolina mountains or spending time along Florida's beaches, family and the outdoors are an important part of his life.

Adam and Andreia also enjoy supporting charitable and nonprofit organizations serving people and animals in their community. When he's not working with clients, you'll often find Adam running, mountain biking, golfing, playing soccer, surfing, or at the gym.

For Adam, financial planning ultimately comes back to a simple idea: money is a tool for building the life that matters to you.

Investment Advisor & Insurance Professional

What is a Fiduciary?
As a Fiduciary our loyalty is always to our clients.

" Investment advisers work directly for clients and must place clients' interests ahead of their own" , according to the Investment Advisers Act of 1940.

"Investment advisers are bound to a fiduciary standard that is regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) or state securities regulators, both of which hold advisors to a fiduciary standard that requires them to put their client's interests above their own.

The act  stipulates that advisers must place their interests below that of their clients. It consists of a duty of loyalty and care.

It also means advisers must do their best to make sure investment advice is made using accurate and complete information and that the analysis is thorough and as accurate as possible. Avoiding a conflict of interest is important when acting as a fiduciary, which means that advisers must disclose any potential conflicts. Additionally, advisers need to place trades under a "best execution" standard, meaning they must strive to trade securities with the best combination of low cost and efficient execution.
